About:

SatNet Simulator is a fun and interactive application. Orbital satellites are generated at the desired radius and density. Land-based stations are created on the world using the latitude/longitude navigation system. Using these elements, random paths can be generated and displayed from beginning to endpoint representing travel along a satellite network.

I was inspired by a networks class project (not mine) related to satellite pathfinding. I was intrigued by the idea and wanted to pursue my own take on the concept, which features a different emphasis. I also wanted to make it interactive and visually appealing, which I believe I accomplished.

Instructions:

Z - Opens Land Station Controls

  • From here manually add, randomly add, or delete all land stations
  • Note: Coordinates too close to another station will not generate

X - Opens SatNet Generation controls

  • Choose radius of orbit and satellite density (world radius will adjust accordingly)

C - Displays "Pathfind" button

  • Click to view randomly generated path

R - Toggles autorotation

Arrow keys - Affect pitch and rotation (when autorotate is disabled) of view

Mouse scroll - Zooms in/out

Mouse right click (hold) - Pauses rotation and pans view
